Requirements for Participation

A.All athletes must pass a physical examination and turn in a completed Student Participation and Physical Exam Form signed by the student, his/her parent or guardian, and the examining physician.

B.All athletes must carry school insurance, sign the waiver form or have a letter from their parents on file with the Athletic Coordinator and/or Faculty Manager indicating that they are covered with insurance by a family policy.

C.All participants in athletics and their parent/guardian must sign the Player Responsibility Agreement indicating their willingness to abide by the policies of the athletic department.

D.Student athletes and their parents/guardians must sign their segment of the Acknowledgement of Warning form, and parents/guardian must complete and sign the Medical Treatment and Insurance Form.

E.All local and OHSAA scholastic eligibility requirements and rules for participation in outside athletic events must be followed.

F.Players must be in school by noon on the day of a contest or in case of a Saturday game be in attendance by noon on Friday. Any exceptions must be approved by the principal or another administrator of that building.

Player Responsibilities

A.All players are expected to uphold the traditions of sportsmanship and fair play. Athletes should be a credit to their school, community, parents, coaches, and fellow students. In order to perform at the top level of efficiency, student athletes should keep body and mind in peak condition.

B.Each player is individually responsible for all equipment issued to him/her. A player may not receive awards or go out for another sport if s/he has not returned all equipment or paid for same.

C.All equipment issued to a player is to be worn only at practice sessions, scheduled games, or other events authorized by the school involving that particular sport.

D.When games are played away from Brush High School or Memorial Junior High School, all players are to go and return on the transportation provided/arranged by the school or approved by the school. Exception: A parent may take his/her son/daughter home providing each specific incident is given prior approval according to procedures established by the building administration.

E.In addition to the Player Responsibilities listed here, all athletes are expected to follow the specific rules associated with individual athletic teams on which they participate.

F.Any member of a school athletic team who steals or maliciously damages or destroys property shall be required to pay the cost of such property.

G.Members of South Euclid-Lyndhurst athletic teams are prohibited from using or possessing drugs, hallucinogens, alcoholic beverages, or tobacco products in any way other than as prescribed by a physician for medical purposes.

H.All players must conduct themselves in such a manner that they will create a positive reflection upon themselves, their team mates, school, student body, and the South Euclid-Lyndhurst City Schools in general.

Penalties for Violation of Responsibilities

Penalties for violation of the above listed Player Responsibilities will vary according to the seriousness of the infraction. The first violation may result in a penalty which may include denial of the player from participation in all contests for a period of up to thirty (30) calendar days. In such cases, the athlete will be required to attend practices during that time but may not dress for contests. In addition, students denied participation will meet with the appropriate school support personnel to review the causes behind the restriction from athletic participation. Subsequent violations within the same school year may result in the player being denied the privilege of participating in interscholastic athletics for one (1) calendar year from the last violation.

If a violation is of an unusually severe nature, a player may be denied the privilege of interscholastic athletic participation for the remainder of the school year in which the violation occurs even if it is his/her first offense.

Penalties for violating responsibility "G.", drug possession and/or use, are specific and apply to violations both within and outside the athletic season. (See administrative guideline 5600 B for details.)

Scholastic Requirements

Eligibility for each grading period is determined by grades received the preceding grading period. Semester and yearly grades have no effect on eligibility.

Grades 9 - 12:

To be eligible, a student must be currently enrolled in school and have received passing grades in a minimum of four (4) one credit courses, or the equivalent, in the immediately preceding grading period.

Grades 7 - 9:

To be eligible, a student must be currently enrolled in school and have received passing grades in the immediately preceding grading period in 75% of subjects in which enrolled. (This also applies to beginning ninth grade students.)

For eligibility purposes, summer school grades may not be used to substitute for failing grades received the final grading period of the regular school year or for lack of enough subjects taken the preceding grading period.

A student's eligibility becomes effective on the fifth (5th) day following the end of the grading period.
